Austrian Icehockey Classic Zeller Oldies Est. 1980

The traditional tournament of the Zeller Oldies is a sporting and social highlight that has been taking place every two years, now for the 19th time. Alongside the sporting competition, the social aspect is the most significant component of the tournament. Thousands of hockey enthusiasts have enjoyed their time in the heart of Europe since 1988.

Registration

The binding registration for the tournament must be submitted no later than Frbruary 15th, 2027. Registrations will be processed on a 'first come, first served' basis.

The maximum number of teams is 34.

Date

The tournament will take place from Tuesday, September 28th, to Saturday, October 2nd, 2027. It starts on Tuesday and concludes with the awards ceremony during the Hockey Night on Saturday.

Please plan your arrival and stay so that you can be present for the first games in Zell am See. Each team must be able to play a game on the first day.

Due to numerous requests and necessary departure times, the tournament will conclude on Saturday with the Hockey Night at Kaprun Castle. Various live bands will once again provide musical entertainment for us on this evening.

All participants will have the opportunity to enjoy their dinner before the bus shuttle transfer to Kaprun Castle starts at 8:00 PM.

You will receive entry wristbands and 2 drink vouchers for the castle at the beginning of the tournament.

Late registrations are possible at the tournament office.

For non-hockey players, entrance tickets can be purchased for €55.-.

As part of this event, the awards ceremony with the presentation of trophies and medals will take place at 9:00 PM, followed by the exclusive castle party with an open-end.

The official castle evening on the historic Kaprun Castle is an essential part of the tournament with a high organizational and financial effort and therefore obligatory for all participants. Accordingly, the cost of the exclusive castle rental, several live bands, folklore performance, transfers and 2 drinks per player, will be invoiced in advance with the tournament fee.

As every team should consist of a minimum of 11 players, we have taken this number as a basis for our calculations. If a team has more than 11 players we will recalculate your costs at the beginning of the tournament.

Tournament Format

The tournament is played in 5 age groups:

- Group 1: Age 40 and above

- Group 2: Age 50 and above

- Group 3: Age 60 and above

- Group 4: Age 70 and above

- Group 5: Age 75 and above

Several teams have asked if it would be possible to include a 75+ team in our tournament, it would be the first time in Europe. We will now try to find 5 teams for the age group 75+ for our tournament. If, contrary to expectations, too few teams register, we will merge 70+ and 75+ into one age group as before.

"Under-age players" are allowed based on the following guidelines:

- In Group 1: 3 players between 37 - 40

- In Group 2: 3 players between 47 - 50

- In Group 3: 3 players between 57 - 60

- In Group 4: 3 players between 67 - 70

- In group 5: 3 players between 72 – 75

The official playing time is 2 x 15 minutes net.

Tournament Fees

The tournament fee includes the registration fee as well as the costs of the HOCKEY NIGHT for a minimum of 11 players. For each additional player the entry fee for the Hockey Night will be charged at the start of the tournament.

In case of withdrawal from the tournament after July 15, 2027, the tournament fee will be retained.

Rules

A team must consist of at least 10 players and 1 goalie .

The tournament will be played according to the official IIHF rules without body check and slap shot. Official association referees will officiate the games.

Schedule

• Registration no later than February 15, 2027
• Confirmation of participation by the OC analogous to the time of registration
• Payment of the tournament fee of 1,725.00 euros immediately after receipt of
the confirmation of participation and invoice. Only after payment has been
made is participation in the tournament binding.
• Announcement of your desired hotel category (bed and breakfast, half board
or all-in if available), the arrival and departure dates and the number of double
rooms or single rooms.
• Zell am See is a well-known international tourist destination and is also
excellently booked at this time of year. Only if you book in advance is it
possible to take your hotel wishes into account and book your entire team
together in one of our partner hotels.
• The pre-booking is made by the organizing committee, after confirmation by
the hotel, the further booking formalities are to be handled directly between
the team leader and the hotels.
• Submission of team list (name, shirt number, position, age) by 1 Aug. 2027 for
the match report and statistical evaluation.

Partner Hotels / Accommodations

The tournament is financially supported by funds from the tourism association, the city and the partner hotels. Without these contributions, it would not be possible to organize the tournament under these conditions. For this reason, we must also insist that participation in the tournament can only be confirmed by the OC after confirmation by the OC team after pre-reservation has been made.

Booking accommodation via booking platforms is
therefore not allowed!

After the pre-reservation and reconfirmation by our partner hotel, the further booking and payment process takes place directly between the participants and the landlord.
